Arrow Season 4 Episode 20 : Genesis
Neha Pandey (Guest Author)
In episode 19 of Arrow CW, Diggle beats himself up for Laurel’s death because he trusted Andy over Oliver and goes after Adams to kill her, but is stopped by Oliver. Meanwhile in the city an impostor is seen playing the Black Canary. Lance seeks Nyssa out to help him bring Laurel back using Lazarus pit, but is told by Nyssa that she has destroyed the pit. The impostor is found out to be Evelyn sharp(one of the many prisoners kept by Darhk at Reddington) who goes after Adams publically, but Oliver intervenes and convinces her to drop her weapons. Laurel’s funeral takes place with Oliver delivering the eulogy and revealing to the world that she was the real Black Canary.
Episode 20 starts with Darhk returning to his hideout and killing the rest of the H.I.V.E board members, and beginning the final phase of “Genesis”. Back at the lair, Felicity has returned to the team(yayyyyy) after realising that she might have prevented Laurel’s death. Oliver tells them that Constantine has put him onto someone, who might be able to teach him how to defend against Darhk’s magic, but it is quite difficult and dangerous at the same time(loved Thea’s Harry Potter reference) and he might skip the city for a day or two, and Thea decides to leave the town for the weekend with Alex.
Diggle’s family has been given A.R.G.U.S’s protection and is living in a bomb proof bunker, seeing that Andy has entered both their house and A.R.G.U.S’s office, it’s not safe for them to be living in any of these places. Diggle locates Andy and goes after him, however he gets knocked out. Andy puts a tracking device on him and let’s him escape, so that he can lead him and Darhk to Lyla.
Felicity on the other hand persists to accompany Oliver on his trip and wins(like always). They travel to Hub city and meet an immortal Shaman Fortuna. Fortuna informs Oliver that Darhk’s idol channels both death and darkness giving him his powers, but there is a counter force that channels light and hope and can be used against Darhk, she also warns them that if the darkness within Oliver is greater than the light then Darhk will become more powerful and stronger. Fortuna tries to teach Oliver how to channel the light but sees that Oliver has too much darkness in him(can you blame the guy?) and walks away.
Thea wakes up in a different town on her weekend getaway and finds out that Alex is on the drug used by H.I.V.E to control people and realizes that she doesn’t know where she is.
Darhk and Andy go after Lyla using the tracker they put on Diggle and attack them to get their hands on “Rubicon” to gain access to the entire world’s nuclear weapons. Diggle goes after Andy and shoots him because Andy was never gonna back off and Diggle can’t take the risk of him going after his family or friends ever again. Darhk and Oliver come face to face with each other and Oliver is finally able to channel the light in him, annulling Darhk’s power and forcing him to recede.
Team finds out that Darhk has taken Rubicon from Lyla and Thea is shown to find herself in some kind of underground artificial city surrounded by H.I.V.E people.
Okay so we finally know how someone with Darhk’s powers can be defeated, and Oliver is finally able to see the light in him. The sequence with Fortuna where Oliver sees all the bad things ever happened to him is quite lamentable. Also I stand by Diggle when he said he had to put Andy down because he was never gonna back off. Do let us know what you think of this episode.
